Dec 5, 2008 - I always think the dicc. is the better option. Thanks.

Dec 5, 2008 - This really demonstrates the point very well. The notable characteristics (to me) are strong syncopations, straight 1/8 notes changes to dotted 8ths & 16ths, with lots of added embellishing notes and chords around the melody and between choruses. One can go on....but that would be my FIRST IMPRESSION. I am loving this series!

Dec 5, 2008 - Thank you very much. I welcome your input and am very interested in other players' comments and insights about this complicated subject.

Dec 5, 2008 - LOL! "Tell them to go on line and check out this video"Another great instruction by a master. I'll never be able to play your style but I can certainly appreciate it's difficulty and unique sound.I'm still trying to get the feel for pushing the first beat of the measure while using simple chords and improvising. It feels like running with a broken leg, but fun. I get the feeling that leading the beat makes it easier for those listening or dancing to arrive on the beat, just a guess.

Dec 5, 2008 - Thanks for your effort. It's a lot of work to create these videos and most professional players won't take the time to give instruction to the next generation. I hope you get a reward somewhere for your generosity.

Dec 5, 2008 - what's the name of this song?

jazznbear Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - "Spreadin' Rhythm Around" by Jimmy McHugh and Ted Koehler from 1935. Fats Waller showcased this piece in "The King of Burlesque" movie.

Dec 5, 2008 - Scott Joplin Also Used The Term Swing When He Said,"Play slowly until you catch the swing..."

jazznbear Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Yes, the term "swing" has been used for at least 100 years. Eubie Blake told us that he and his contemporaries used the terms "swing" and "ragtime" interchangeably, even well past the ragtime era.

Morahman7vnNo2 Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Swing is overdue for a reappearance.
