Dec 5, 2008 - Actually, its a 1937 Lincoln Zephyr but there are similarities. It was introduced in 1937 as a mid-priced car (but with a 12 cylinder engine) to try to overcome Lincoln's VERY conservative styling.

Dec 5, 2008 - They destroyed most of that type of classic car in the 50s+60s making stock cars out of them.

Dec 5, 2008 - According to Fats Waller's son, Maurice, this was a maroon '37 Lincoln Continentaldriven by his chauffeur Herman 'Buster' Shepherd for USD150 pw. In Buster's own words " My real job was to be his companion ... to stay up all night with him. Fats was always a lot of fun to be with, the greatest human being I have ever known" Amen to that and what sweet music he made.

Dec 5, 2008 - Victor hired Condon to get Fats to the studio by noon March 1 '29, but they woke at 10.30 am with monumental gin hangovers. Fats took a cab, picked up three or so musicians and composed 'Harlem Fuss' and 'Minor Drag' on the way, humming the parts. Victor mixed up these titles as a listen makes clear, but were delighted with Fats' timeliness and the music. They called the group 'Fats Waller & his Buddies' for want of a name! Handful of Keys/Numb Fumbling was recorded at the same session.
