This is exemplary for the notorious Charlie recordings from WWII, when the nazi propaganda was trying to subvert the stamina of their enimies. In this case, Eddie Cantor's pretty song is abused to hold the US Jews collectively responsible for WWII ... These extremely rare records were made exclusively for shortwave broadcasting to Great Britain, USA and other adversary countries. Whether the lyrics may sound ridiculous or still offending for today's listeners, the Charlie records belong to the musically most accomplished swing recordings in the Third Reich. Vocalist was Karl Schwedler, the band personnel consisted of musicians of the Lutz Templin Dance Orchestra. However for various reasons, they were substituted quite frequently by others.Recommended reading: Hitler's Airwaves (by Rainer E. Dec 2, 2008 - This guy did these records to stay off the Russian Front. Nice music. Did this guy survive the WAR? He could of had a job playing gigs for the allies after the war.

Dec 2, 2008 - Thanks for your comment. I have several of these Charlies, but I rather hesitate to post more of them. Just historic stuff as it may be, I still consider this as politically somewhat delicate you know ...

Jeansschwimmer Says:

Dec 2, 2008 - I did not even know they were actually printed; I thought they were just tapes or wax-recordings from the radio archives. Anything of this kind can of course only be published with un unbiased historically sound comment, just the way we read NS-ideology in classes dealing with that subject.

Dec 2, 2008 - Wow-had never even known these Charlies were made or broadcast. Deutsche Welle? Please post yours Stompy-history was what it was, for better or worse. I just posted a US government propaganda piece featuring black performers selling war bonds-not very kind to the Japanese, Germans or Italians.

Dec 2, 2008 - Nice, never heard of this particular song. "Charlie" survived the war. I have at least 3 different parody versions of Lili Marleen by him.
